I love my Kindle4
I have been thinking about buying a Kindle, then I got wind of Oprah endorsing it on her show and decided to go for it on the Thursday before the show aired on Friday. I missed out on the $50 off promotion, but I got my Kindle in 2 days, which now I noticed that post-Oprah, it is taking 2-3 weeks.

Here is what I love so far:
The screen is easy on the eyes. Once you get into a book, you forget you are reading it on a screen.
You can change the font size to fit your needs.
You can carry all of your books with you and pull up any book at any time and start reading.
You can "highlight" or "bookmark" or create a "note" anywhere in the book for later reference. I always run into passages in books that I want to reference for later, and the Kindle makes it super easy.
You can order books anytime, anywhere and it only takes a minute or so to get your book.
You can order a "sample" of book, which is usually the first chapter, then decide if you want to buy it or not.
The books are usually less than $10. I have spent too much money on books in the last week or so!

What I don't like:
The cover needs some work. The Kindle will not stay in the cover on its own. I take the elastic band and use it on the bottom right hand corner to hold the book in place while reading.
The page turn buttons are too big. You really cannot touch the right or left side of the reader without activating one or the other. This turned out to be a minor issue, as I have since figured out how to hold the reader comfortably without triggering the page turn buttons, but it would be nice to be able to hold the sides.

I thought I would miss the comfort of holding a book and turning the page, but I don't. Perhaps I am still in the honeymoon stage and will miss it later. I would recommend the Kindle to anyone who loves to read and loves technology.

Best product ever for avid readers!5
I received this book Friday afternoon and am already reading my third book. The Kindle is absolutely the best "new" technology I have ever tried. I have been researching this product for the last two months while I saved up enough money to purchase it. I have haunted the reviews and message boards daily anxiously reading every entry. I knew from the first time I saw the Kindle that I would have to have one. I have not been disappointed. The e-ink technology is wonderful. I have read in the bright sun and a dimly lit church parking lot with no problems. I would not change anything about the device.

I cannot yet speak to the experimental tools available on the device, as I have already downloaded 15 books by some of my favorite authors plus two new authors that had free books offered by Amazon. I am too caught up in reading to take the time to play with these features. But after all, isn't reading what the thing is for anyway?

I highly recommend this product for anyone who enjoys reading

Be very Careful about ordering this product!1
Be very very careful about ordering this product from Amazon. The company ships out this product - expensive as it is - with a LIVE link to your account (i.e., credit card on your Amazon one click account) via the US postal service WITHOUT requiring a delivery signature or authentication in order to activate the live link to your credit card account with Amazon! Apparently the rocket scientists went to work for NASA, not Amazon - how else could you possibly explain the incredible stupidity of a company virtually sending out access to their customers' credit card accounts without any control! My Kindle was apparently delivered 4 dqys BEFORE Amazon's "delivery estimate" - so it was purely by chance that I discovered that my Kindle had indeed been delivered to SOMEONE else! On the "Manage your kindle" page, I saw that 3 books I pre-ordered which should have been downloaded automatically when I activated the unit were indeed showing that they had been successfully delivered TO SOMEONE ELSE, i.e., to whomever received my Kindle. Amazon has been incredibly unhelpful - they won't even process a complaint and refund for me until 3 days AFTR the estimated delivery date - which in this case happens to be 4 days AFTER the kindle was actually delivered (which the USPS web site confirms) to someone else. How irresponsible!

Product Description

Introducing Kindle™ Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, you’ll find reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot, and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time. We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you’ll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read. With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven’t read the book for tomorrow night’s book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you’re in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand. We’re very proud to introduce Kindle and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. - The Amazon Kindle Team
